LA FARGE, WIS. — The organic American cheese consumers came to know in a sliced format from Organic Valley now may be purchased in blocks.
The farmer-owned cooperative introduced its newest dairy products, American Cheese Blocks, which debuted with Original and Fiesta varieties.
"American cheese has been a staple in households for years, but finding a widely available, organic option in a block format just wasn't possible — until now," Organic Valley vice president of marketing Laurie Drake said. "We're so excited about our new Organic Valley American Cheese Blocks, because they can be enjoyed in so many delicious ways and are made with real organic dairy and ingredients you can pronounce."
Sold in 11 oz blocks, the new products were created to offer more versatility in the kitchen, Organic Valley said, with the option to slice, shred, cube or melt the cheese as anyone sees fit.
Organic Valley described the original flavor as a cheese that offers a “classic, mild cheddar-like taste that can be melted into mac and cheese, mixed into soups, and sliced for burgers.”
The Fiesta American Cheese Blocks, the company shared, blend the original variety with organic jalapeno peppers and habanero powder, as well as Mexican-inspired spices “to deliver a zesty kick.”
The company said it makes the cheeses with organic milk from pasture-raised cows, with no antibiotics, synthetic hormones, toxic pesticides or GMOs involved.
The new cheese blocks will launch this month at Whole Foods locations. Organic Valley said more retailers will begin selling them in the months ahead.
