KANSAS CITY, KAN. — Dairy Farmers of America formulated a better-for-you chocolate milk that it said features more protein and less sugar.
The company made TruMoo Zero with whole milk and noted it offers 50% more protein (13 grams per serving) than regular chocolate milk while containing no added sugar.
“We know that many consumers today are interested in increasing protein consumption and reducing sugar intake,” Dairy Farmers of America chief marketing officer of dairy brands Rachel Kyllo said. “TruMoo Zero provides these benefits while delivering the same great taste that TruMoo chocolate milk fans love.”
The new product is lactose-free, with 8 grams of natural dairy milk protein, as well as 5 grams of milk protein concentrate, which the company said avoids “the gritty texture that can accompany high-protein beverages.”
Said Kyllo: “We hope both kids and adults will enjoy this protein-packed chocolate milk, which is delicious on its own as a snack or treat, but can also be used to punch up the protein for post-workout options like smoothies or overnight oats.”
Dairy Farmers of America said TruMoo Zero will be sold in 48 oz extended shelf life bottles and 64 oz fresh bottles at most Target locations throughout the United States, as well as select retailers in the Northeast and on the West Coast.
