GRAFTON, VT. — Vermont Farmstead Cheese added another artisanal cheese brand to its portfolio, acquiring Grafton Village Cheese Company from the Windham Foundation.
Grafton Village Cheese operated as a subsidiary of the foundation. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
The cheese makers shared that Vermont Farmstead’s investment in Grafton Village was driven by mutual goals, including preserving artisanal cheese production in Vermont and a passion for the state’s agriculture.
The company’s leaders described the acquisition as a significant milestone for the Grafton Village brand and a strategic move that will contribute to the long-term success of Grafton Village.
“In combining the strengths of Vermont Farmstead Cheese and Grafton Village Cheese, our goal is to create a dynamic company that honors the unique identities of each brand,” Vermont Farmstead president and chief operating officer Kent Underwood said. “Creating a singular organization enables us to leverage our collective expertise, optimize operations and create efficiencies across all areas of our business – from cheesemaking to marketing and distribution.”
Grafton Village chief executive officer Curt Alpeter added: “Vermont Farmstead will be a wonderful steward of the GVCC brand by retaining cheesemaking in Grafton and by maintaining the distinctive nature of both brands, as each represents values and craftsmanship cherished by our customers.”
The cheese specialists from the companies said the Grafton Village brand “holds a significant place in the history of Vermont cheesemaking,” and Vermont Farmstead considers ensuring the brand’s success a responsibility.
Said Underwood: “As we move forward, we remain committed to our quality, to our local dairy farmers and cows, and to the community spirit that have distinguished both companies.”
