PETALUMA, CALIF. — Organic dairy maker Straus Family Creamery added another family farm to its network of local organic milk suppliers.

Straus Family Creamery, which announced it will begin sourcing organic milk from Bordessa Family Dairies, noted that part of its mission involves the preservation of rural communities and sustainable family farming.

The Bordessa operation includes Bordessa Dairy and Ocean Breeze Dairy. Straus Family Creamery said the farms have a multi-generational legacy of pasture-based dairy farming. The Bordessa family has farmed in California’s Marin and Sonoma counties for more than a century.

“The Bordessa family is deeply rooted in our farming community and committed to sustainable organic practices which align perfectly with our mission,” Straus Family Creamery founder Albert Straus said. “Supporting families like the Bordessas ensures that future generations of farmers can thrive.”

Organic practices put in place at Bordessa Family Dairies include rotational grazing, planting cover crops and fertilizing pastures with manure and compost. Straus Family Creamery also shared that Bordessa Family Dairies, as part of a carbon farm plan, recently planted 550 native trees and shrubs to capture carbon and restore a creek.

Jarrid Bordessa, a fifth-generation farmer, said his family felt like linking with Straus Family Creamery was a natural fit.

“We’ve always admired Straus Family Creamery for their commitment to organic practices and their dedication to supporting local farmers,” Bordessa said.

Straus Family Creamery said it collaborates with its supplying organic dairy farms as it works toward achieving carbon neutrality by 2030.

The milk sourced from those organic California dairy farms goes into Straus Family Creamery’s minimally processed milk and cream, as well as its yogurt, butter and ice cream products.
