WASHINGTON — The International Dairy Foods Association announced it is awarding 37 dairy companies with the IDFA Dairy Industry Safety Recognition Award this year.
Occupational injury and illness performance statistics from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration factored into the selection process, as did detailed narrative essays on safety efforts and leading indicators at each company’s facility.
“The dairy industry continues to demonstrate that safety in the workplace is the dairy industry’s number one priority,” said Michael Dykes, IDFA president and chief executive officer. “Each safety recognition award represents the success of the innovative and proactive approaches to workplace safety by dairy company safety teams. Every day, year after year, dairy companies go above and beyond to provide a safe and productive work environment. Consumers and customers of dairy foods companies value how these innovations help to deliver safe, nutritious food to people around the world.”
The awards honor both processing facilities and trucking operations. The IDFA gave out 33 awards for facility safety, and recognized four companies with most improved awards, which were based on significant decreases in injury cases and other factors from the past two years compared with other facilities.
The awards, established to highlight outstanding workplace safety in US dairy workplaces, have been sponsored by the IDFA for 19 years.
