NEW YORK – Cheesemonger's Guild LTD announced tickets are available for the New York Cheesemonger Invitational, where cheesemongers compete and guests get to taste a variety of artisan cheeses.
Organizers describe the invitational as an all-you-can-eat event for attendees, with not only “perfect bites” of cheese available, but also dishes such as fondue, grilled cheese and raclette. Tasting tables at the show will include cheeses from France, Italy, Switzerland, Holland, Spain, Belgium, England, Germany and the United States.
The competition itself, set for June 25 at Brooklyn Steel, in Brooklyn, NY, tests cheesemongers on such subjects as aroma, taste, cutting a perfect quarter pound, wrapping cheese, salesmanship and more.
The event opens at 3 p.m. for fans, and finalists are announced at 6 p.m., followed by the final rounds of competition.
"We are so excited to return to Brooklyn to showcase our country's best cheesemongers," said Adam Moskowitz, the event’s founder. "This sounds crazy but when a cheesemonger cuts a perfect quarter pound of cheese on stage the room erupts in cheers as if the national women's soccer team just scored a game winning goal. Yup, we made cheesemongering a sport."
